The script goes to a For Loop only if certain conditions are met , which means the variable may or may not exists. WebJun 4, 2024 · @Kusalananda You were right the problem is with the source command in the ~/.cshrc and ~/.login. I had tried it out manually and found out that the .cshrc.user has an alias named source (cd /somedir) that has overridden the original command. Good example why not copy someone else aliases. –

If it isn't there, you can simply create it. .cshrc has the same function as .bashrc - it is read each time you enter a non-login shell. Therefore, everytime you open a csh, .cshrc will be read.
